WHARNCLIFFE — Callaway Natural Resources, a subsidiary of Alpha Natural Resources, located in Wharncliffe, celebrated Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Gilbert and Matewan Elementary Schools, Fourth Grade Classes were Callaway's special guest.

Callaway's office personnel hosted the mine tour with the students. They visited Cobra Mountaineer Mine and Premium Energy Surface Mine. The students were allowed to see up close how surface mining is done in a responsible way and how the land can be left for a higher and better use than before such as the Twisted Gun Golf Course, which they toured.

Lunch was served to the children and teachers. Following lunch, the children received "Goody Bags" filled with many enjoyable trinkets. The "Trinkets" were donated by Callaway Natural Resources, Walker Machinery, K&K Steam Cleaning, Kermit Western Auto and Charleston Blueprint.

Callaway Natural Resources would like to take this opportunity to thank Gilbert and Matewan Elementary Schools for allowing us to celebrate Earth Day with them.
