Last month, the West Logan Council approved adoption of the county's dilapidated and abandoned building ordinance and earlier in the week the Town of Man also approved the measure.
For years all three towns have been faced with the problem of old, abandoned and sometimes burnt out dwellings that have become health and safety hazards as well as eyesores.
Earlier in the June meeting the Logan City Council had approved an amendment for the fire and building code to address the topic of weeds and untended lawns. Kendal Partlow said the public would be required to keep their lawn in order.
Councilmembers discussed passing an ordinance adopting the county's dilapidated and abandoned building ordinance, even though the matter was also addressed in its' fire and building code which had been adopted several weeks ago.
Police Chief E.K. Harper said the county might be able to assist the city with grant funding on the long term problems caused by abandoned and run down structures. Kendal Partlow said the city wished to be in harmony with the county on a problem that affected both entities and all citizens. Chief Harper noted the city's fire and building code which had previously been adopted was actually stricter than the county's ordinance.
