Golden Reel Award winner has local ties

David Acord, the son of a former Chapmanville resident, was recently awarded the prestigious Golden Reel Award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors Society, an award voted on by his peers, for his work on The Clone Wars.

Acord is the son of Jerry and Marianne Acord of Delaware. His father is a 1960 graduate of Chapmanville High School and the son of Jessie Acord of Delaware and the late John E. Acord, who was a brick mason in the Logan area and who helped in the construction of Logan High School and other buildings in county.

David Acord has been a part of the film industry for 15 years. Having been a musician for most of his life, David found a home in the world of Film and TV Sound Production. Based out of his home in Delaware, he began his sound production career on the East Coast as a boom operator and mixing assistant on such films as "Fallen," "The Patriot" and "Unbreakable." In 1997, Acord moved to Los Angeles to pursue film work in Hollywood. There he continued his production sound work on such films as "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and television projects like NBC's "The 60's."

After completing work on Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow," (a 6-month project in London, England) Acord moved to San Francisco to pursue work in post-production. In 2000, while working on "Matrix: Reloaded", Acord met Matthew Wood, supervising sound editor for the Star Wars Prequels. Soon after, he was hired at Skywalker Sound as an editorial assistant for "Star Wars: Episode II, Attack of the Clones."

Since that time, Acord has worked at Skywalker Sound on such films as "The Incredibles," "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith," and "Cars." He was also instrumental in the 2004 DVD re-master of the original Star Wars Trilogy.

Following the release of "Revenge of the Sith," Acord began to focus more on Sound Design, starting with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Project Greenlight horror film, "Feast." During work on "Fanboys," he was approached by "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" director Dave Filoni about sound designing the revolutionary new animated show. Soon, the decision was made to take the TV show to the big screen. The pilot episodes for the show were to be a theatrically released film. Acord now found himself as the newest sound designer for the Star Wars franchise.

David Acord was recently awarded He is currently working on sound design and editorial for "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" Season 2. He has also begun pre-production sound design work on Lucasfilm's upcoming World War II epic, "Red Tails."
