A longtime staple of the Logan business scene has passed away following a long bout with cancer.

Frank Chirico was not just the man whose name was on the door of his Italian restaurant, Chirico was often the person you saw making deliveries or working in the kitchen. Such a sight was not rare when dealing with this "boss" friends and customers recall.

Chirico was known in his youth for his athletic skills before he became a strong part of the Logan business community. In the 1970s and 80s Frank displayed exceptional motocross skills in competition, ranking in the top one percent in the nation.

His main claim to fame was with his business acumen, specifically as a restaurateur. He started with the Mr. Munchie Bakery and Deli in his father’s grocery store. In 1981, he began the popular Frank's Pizza chain of restaurants, starting nine shops. Frank Chirico is best known for his full service Italian restaurants, Chirico's Ristoranté, in Logan and Pikeville, Ky. He passes his legacy on to three sons, with whom he enjoyed working daily.

Friends say Chirico took great pleasure in cooking for his loyal customers, and will be remembered for his dynamic personality, love of people, unstoppable spirit and charismatic smile.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Wiley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

So sad. He was way too young. Peace to his family, and God Rest Frank who truly must have loved Logan, for all his hard work, and passion that he put into living here.
