CHAPMANVILLE — American Legion Post 103 and the VFW Post 6153, both of Chapmanville, and DAV Post 39 of Harts, will host a bridge dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. The US 119 bridge crossing Chapmanville will be dedicated and renamed the Private Robert Clayton Stevenson Memorial Bridge. Stevenson was killed while on active duty in Vietnam by a sniper fire.

Stevenson was a native of the Chapmanville area. He had two brothers, Dave and Richard, and three sisters, Elizabeth “Slug,” Carol and Karen.

Requesting the bridge dedication was VFW Post 6153 member Donald Workman of Newark, Ohio.

Activities include a flag raising ceremony, a gun salute with Taps and the dedication ceremony beginning at approximately noon. Refreshments will be served.

The public, along with all public officials, are welcome to attend.
