Matchups set for 9-10 state tourney

The Logan and Man 9-10-year-old Little League Baseball All-Star teams are ready for the state tournament.

The state tourney is scheduled to run Saturday through next Thursday at the Tygart Valley Little League Complex in Huttonsville in Randolph County.

Logan is placed in Pool 3 and is scheduled to open play in the round-robin event on Saturday at 3 p.m. against host Tygart Valley, the District 8 runner-up.

Logan will then play on Sunday against Region 1 champion Barboursville at 4 p.m.

On Monday, pool play concludes with a 6 p.m. contest against Ripley, the District 3 runner-ups.

Man is scheduled to play in Pool 1 and opens on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the District 4 runner-up team. On Sunday, Man faces off with District 3 champion North Putnam at 6 p.m.

Man then is set to play District 6 runner-up Hedgesville on Monday at 5 p.m.

The top two teams from each of the four pools advance to play July 14 in the single-elimination tourney. The semifinals are set for July 15 with the championship game slated for July 16.

The Logan 9-10s advanced to state with a 7-1 victory over Pineville in the District 2 finals at Mullens. Logan also scored wins over Man (6-5), Welch (13-5) and Red Jacket (18-10) in the district tourney. Logan moved on to the districts with a victory over Holden in the area tourney at Logan’s Paul Hale Field. Logan lost to Chapmanville, 9-0, in the area tourney opener on June 20, but then beat Madison 10-0 to advance.

Man moved on to the state tourney after beating Chapmanville, 4-2, at Mullens in the district tourney.

Man also beat Red Jacket (13-3), Welch (9-3) and Mullens (17-0) in post-season action.

Logan and Chapmanville have already advanced to the 11-12 State Little League Tournament at Summersville but the tourney doesn’t begin until July 25.

Both Logan and Chapmanville are undefeated heading into state play.
