Many Logan residents lined up to take advantage of the Logan County Commission’s free trash pickup that was held at the lot beside Baisden Brothers. The free trash pickup will travel to Man this weekend, to Chapmanville the next and back to Logan for the final three days of the annual event.
A Logan County official said this weekend's free trash pickup in Logan was highly successful.

Totals were not in as of press time Tuesday morning due to large amounts of trash being hauled away as late as Monday morning, but Logan County Administrator Roscoe "Rocky" Adkins said the county commission's free trash pickup has already been a big success.

"It's amazing how much trash we hauled off," Adkins said Monday morning. "The first weekend went very well. I'm always amazed at how much trash and debris people bring in."

This is the third year for the county commission's free trash pickup. Residents of Logan County are urged to bring in their trash, debris and old tires to several sites around the county for free pickup, courtesy of the Logan County Commission and a grant from the state.

On Thursday, the first day of the trash pickup, 16 tractor trailers full of trash and debris were hauled away at the end of the day.

On Friday, cars were backed up out to the highway next to the collection site beside of Baisden Bros. Hardware Store.

Once inside, vehicles were lined up three deep to be unloaded by five men and three women working on the project.

And it was that way all weekend long, Adkins said.

All of the cleanups will open each morning at 8 a.m. and will close at 6 p.m. daily.

The cleanup will then move to Man the following weekend, starting on Thursday, July 16, and running through Saturday, July 18, at the old Man Hospital location.

The cleanup will then move to Chapmanville at the Rock Quarry starting on July 23 and running through July 25.

The cleanup then returns to Logan on July 30 and will close on August 1, again at the vacant lot beside Baisden Brothers.

The county commission has held the cleanup for the last two years, taking in hundreds of tons of garbage and debris in an effort to clean trash from communities in Logan County.
