WEST LOGAN, W.Va. — Hazel Louise Gartin, 87, of West Logan, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Trinity Healthcare after a brief illness.

Also preceding her in death was her husband of 68 years, Harry C. Gartin; daughter, Carolyn Louise Gartin; parents, Charley Blankenship and Viola Estep Blankenship McNealy; brother, Carney Blankenship, and sisters, Tootsie Graham and Beulah Armstrong.

Hazel was a devout Christian and member of the Logan Nazarene Church. She was a beloved and proud wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a respected friend and neighbor. She loved God, family, church, home and friends and neighbors.

Survivors include her sons, Richard (Sharon) Gartin of Raleigh, N.C., and Edwin (Barbara) Gartin of Lowell, Arizona; granddaughters, Nancy (Bobby) Gartin-Checchi of Tarrytown, N.Y., and Meredith Gartin of Tempe, Arizona, and her great-grandson, Gavin Checchi of Tarrytown. She was wonderfully cared for and attended by her niece and nephew, Peggy and Ron McClure; nieces, Ronna McClure and Lisa Prichard; nephew, Randy Robinette; beloved friends, Bambi Compton and Lisa Bryant; the kind and compassionate nurses and staff of Dignity Hospice and Trinity Healthcare, and her neighbors Helen, Ruby and Linda.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the James Funeral Home at Aracoma with Rev. Larry Cale officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
