The Logan County Commission’s free trash pickup wraps up this weekend in Logan.

The cleanup event started this morning and runs through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily beside Baisden Brothers Hardware.

Logan County Commission President Art Kirkendoll said he believes the cleanup event, which is in its third year, is highly successful once again.

“We believe this one will be the biggest cleanup yet,” Kirkendoll said. He attributes the increase in poundage to the county’s new cleanup ordinance that mandates dilapidated buildings be torn down and property cleared of trash and debris. The ordinance was enacted to help clean up the county, which is a tourist destination.

Last year’s free trash pickup netted 2 million pounds of trash and debris, Kirkendoll said. This year, the county commission expects to collect more than 3 million pounds.

The cleanup event was held in Logan on its first weekend, then moved to Man, then to Chapmanville and the month-long event will finish back in Logan.
