There’s going to be food and fun for everyone at the first Logan County Fair.

The newly-named fair is an expansion on the old Logan County Arts and Crafts Festival that has been popular in the area for many years, said Debrina Williams, with the Logan County Chamber of Commerce. But, this year, the fair is broadening its horizons and adding several new features and attractions, she said in a recent interview.

This year, the fair won’t just be about arts and crafts, although those two features will be a big part of the new county fair, Williams said in the interview.

Logan’s Got Talent and it will be on display during the upcoming Logan County Fair.

The talent contest, along with other entertainment will be featured at the first Logan County Fair, which begins Friday afternoon in the Willie Akers Arena at the Logan Memorial Fieldhouse on Midelburg Island. The fair will still feature many artisans and crafters and so much more is on the schedule.

A press release from The Logan County Chamber of Commerce said this year’s fair will include more entertainment, food, vendors, artisans and crafters than in previous years when the fair was called the Logan County Arts and Crafts Festival.

The fair opens at 4 p.m. on Friday with several new activities including the Berkley Fish Pond, sponsored by EQT, where kids can enjoy time fishing in a catch-and-release format.

A press release from the Logan County Chamber of Commerce said parents are urged to bring their children and take advantage of this exclusive opportunity to enjoy time fishing with their children while at the fair.

Another special event for kids will be Germ City sponsored by the West Virginia University Extension Service.

The press release said kids and adults will learn about germs and how to prevent disease in a fun and educational environment.

Another great kids’ event will be the Logan High School cheerleaders hosting a booth during the fair for princess makeovers, face painting and more.

In opening the Logan County Fair on Friday the 2009 America’s Ultimate Mrs., Navonna Browning, a resident of Logan County, will welcome attendees.

The Country Kitchen is back, as well as other food and sweets vendors.

Entertainment will fill the schedule throughout the weekend starting Friday evening on the inside main stage: At 5 p.m., Krista Brown will perform and at 7 p.m., the band Top Shelf will perform. On the outside stage, the Street Players Band performance begins at 6:30 p.m.
