MAN — The Buffalo Creek Watershed Association was established almost five years ago with the goal of cleaning up 17 miles along Buffalo Creek, including roadway and creek banks.
With the dedicated effort of improving the Buffalo Creek, the association, along with coal companies, churches, such as Becco United Baptist Church, and area residents has stocked the creek with Rainbow Trout for the youth for the past several years.
But there are still areas for improvement, such as littering. The association has recently installed camera boxes in area along Buffalo Creek Memorial Highway with the hope of getting license plate numbers of those littering. But don’t get used to seeing the boxes monitoring just one site, as they will be moved to other locations along Buffalo Creek.
“People need to realize that littering is a crime and you can be arrested and fined,” said Perry Harvey, a member of the BCWA. “The association wants to urge residents to do their part to help keep Buffalo Creek clean.”
The Buffalo Creek Watershed Association is also planning to distribute plastic bags to motorists to keep in their cars to put trash in.
The group, which is spearheaded by Harvey, Eddie Adkins, David Crawford and Johnny Doss, meets at Buffalo Grade School. Anyone who wants to assist the association in their clean-up efforts can call at Harvey 304-583-6073 or Adkins at 304-583-7434.
