Gresham finishes 8th on junior golf tour

CHAPMANVILLE – Chapmanville Regional High School golfer Zac Gresham finished eighth in the 16-and-under division on the 2009 West Virginia Top Flight Junior Golf Tour.

This age group was the largest of the four and consisted of approximately 100 golfers.

Gresham, a junior at CRHS, shot an 80 in the final event, the Tour Championship on the Meadows Course at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, finishing seventh.

The top 24 golfers from all age group earned invitations to the event.

Gresham’s best finish of the year was third at the 6,900-yard Parkersburg Country Club. He shot 76 – three strokes behind the winner.

Gresham finished the year with a scoring average of 77.8. He also played in two Tri-State tournaments in the Huntington area, finishing second in both events.

The Top Flight Junior Tour consist of 17 tournaments around West Virginia from Morgantown to Wheeling To Charleston.

The tour is operated by representatives Calloway Golf and the West Virginia Golf Association.

Players come from West Virginia as well as six other states to compete. Players are limited to 10 tournaments per year and were awarded points on where they finish in each tournament.

At the high school level in 2008, Gresham led his team to both the Double AA State Tournament and the Cardinal Conference Championship. His 76 at Big Bend Golf Course captured second place in the regional tournament. He was named to both the All-Cardinal Conference and Double A All-State teams. Gresham is also the starting shortstop for the Chapmanville Regional baseball team.
