The local civic club will be hosting a Bicycle Safety Rodeo on August 22 from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Fountain Place Mall.
The family oriented event is set up for kids ages 13 and under to ride their bikes and have fun, noted Kiwanis President Diana Barnett.
"Children will learn safe riding techniques through a series of stations" she said. Kids who are going to be Bicycle Safety Rodeo participants should bring a bike and wear comfortable clothing and be ready to have fun."
A free helmet will be given to the first 180 participants, and other prizes will be given away as well as outdoor ATV and safety kits courtesy of the Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority. The West Logan Police Department will be providing fingerprinting for kids. There is no registration fee.
"The helmets are pretty nice and range in size from extra large to extra small," Barnett said Thursday. "We had two local businesses who donated them and we want to see as many kids as possible show up and have fun at this event. This would be a great activity for children in church youth groups, and as this is Vacation Bible School time, people should tell their pastors and youth group directors about the event."
For grand prizes, six bicycles will be given away, and each participant will receive a ticket for a free hotdog and drink. Pepsi Bottling of Logan will provide music. The Logan Shriners will do the cooking.
"We will also be having a life radio broadcast with WVOW's Dave Allen," Barnett said.
All Kiwanis Club members are asked to be ready to volunteer to help the event become a success and report early on Aug. 22.
