One year of marriage today — Celebrating one year of marriage today, August 16, are Phillip David and Heather Ann Tomblin Deskins. The couple was united in marriage on August 16, 2008, at 4:30 p.m. at the Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Pecks Mill with Rev. Roscoe Chafin officiating. Heather is the daughter of Taylor (Marsha) Tomblin of Whitman, and Lesa (Jim) Blackburn of McAndrews, Ky. She is the granddaughter of Edward Jr. and Beulah Cremeans and the late Raymond and Thena Adkins, all of Whitman. Heather is a 2003 honor graduate of Logan High School and a 2007 honor graduate of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College with an AAS degree in Radiologic Technology. She is employed with Logan Regional Medical Center as a radiologic technologist. Phillip is the son of Phillip and Kim Deskins of Mill Creek. He is the grandson of Wanda Deskins and the late Raymond Deskins, also of Mill Creek, Ralph (Mavis) Wingler of Crawley Creek, and Mary Lou Wingler of Lorado. Phillip is a 1997 graduate of Chapmanville High School and a 1999 graduate of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He is employed with Auxi Health in Chapmanville. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and given in marriage by her parents. She wore a long white satin gown with a bustle back and chapel length train all adorned in beaded crystals and sequins. The tear drop shaped bouquet carried by the bride was made of various shades of purple and yellow flowers. The flower girl was Hannah Kennedy, cousin of the groom. Serving as the matron of honor (best woman) was Kresta Burford, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids included Rachel Viars, best friend of the bride, and Stacy Price, Sara Adams, and Samantha Gallimore, all cousins of the bride, and serving as the junior bridesmaid was Haley Kennedy, cousin of the groom. The bridesmaids wore long satin alternately patterned lilac and canary colored dresses and carried round sphere shaped bouquets with various shades of purple and yellow flowers. Serving as the best man was Aaron Deskins, uncle of the groom. Groomsmen included D.R. White and Travis White, friends of the groom, Brandon Tomblin, brother of the bride, and Derrick Lambert, friend of the groom. The groomsmen wore alternately colored lilac and canary vests. The ring bearer was Keegan Barker, cousin of the bride. Serving as ushers were Joey Kennedy and Mike Deskins, both are cousins of the groom. Vocal selections were provided by Bruce Adkins, uncle of the bride, and Ladie Burke, friend of the bride singing "Will You Marry Me," Kirk Burford, cousin of the bride, singing "God Blessed the Broken Road," and Jenny Curry, friend of the bride, singing " Wind Beneath My Wings." Following the wedding, a dinner reception was held at Logan Middle School with music provided by DJ Will Alderman. Following a honeymoon to Outer Banks, N.C., the couple made their home at Whitman. Allie boys celebrate birthday — Jordan Smedy Allie and Mike Smedy Allie III, the sons of Mike and Angie Allie of Logan, recently celebrated their birthdays. Jordan celebrated his second birthday with a Thomas the Train themed party on March 16, 2009, at his home with family. Mike celebrated his fourth birthday with a Spiderman themed party on June 22, 2009, at his home with family. They are the grandsons of Mike and Wanda Allie of Charleston and Cecil and Mary Williams of Logan. They are the great-grandsons of the late Bob and Ina Meadows, the late Linzey and Lilly Williams, the late Lawrence and Hazel Webb and the late Emmit and Annie Allie.
Announcing — Adam and Jami Lea Lucas of Chapmanville are please to announce the birth of their daughter, Isabella FayeAnn Lucas. Bella was born at CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital in Charleston at 4:53 p.m. May 10, 2009. She weighed 6 pounds, 4ounces and was 18.5 inches long. Bella has one older sister Adrianna Jean, age 10. She is the granddaughter of Paul and Joy Cook of Logan, James and Janet Lucas of Harts, and the late James Vance of Chapmanville.
Seven years old today — Christian Lee Maynard will be celebrating his seventh birthday today, August 16, 2009. He is the son of Rebecca Curtis of Switzer and Lonnie Maynard III of Vocation Road. He has two brothers, Michael Drake Maynard of McConnell and Cody Alan Piercey of Cow Creek, and one sister, Lonnie Lynn Paige Maynard of Switzer. His paternal grandparents are Lonnie Maynard Sr. of McConnell and Delie Maynard of Vocation Road. His maternal grandparents are Michael and Norma Acord of Cow Creek.
Lukacs-Porter to wed Aug. 29 — Carrie Lukacs and Jonathan Porter are pleased to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. The bride-elect is the daughter of Greg and Wendy Lukacs of Whitman. She is the maternal granddaughter of Nancy Call of Logan and the late Harland Aleshire, and the paternal granddaughter of Dora Lukacs of Holden and the late Joe Lukacs. Carrie is the great-granddaughter of Reba Skeens of Whitman. She is a 2001 graduate of Logan High School, a 2005 graduate of Logan Mingo School of Practical Nursing and a 2010 graduate of Mountain State University with bachelor's degree in nursing. The prospective groom is the son of Detrice Porter of Holden and Harold and Kim Porter of Logan. He is the paternal grandson of Faye Gore of Holden and the late Art Gore, and the paternal grandson of Pauline Porter of Holden and the late Ray Porter. Jonathan is a 1993 graduate of Logan High and a 2005 graduate of Logan Mingo School of Practical Nursing. The couple will exchange vows at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 29, at the No. 14 Whitman Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Alvis Porter Jr. performing the ceremony.
