The town of Man received another grant bringing the town's tally up to around the $500,000 mark in grants and government funding.
Fekete said the town has received a grant for $40,000 to build a paved walking trail around the town pool. Fekete said the project should be up for bid in about six months.
Fekete also said the Man Pool didn't have as successful a summer as the council had hoped due to an unusually rainy season this year.
"It seemed like it rained every other day," Fekete quipped. "So, it didn't do as good as it did last year. The pool will be closing after Labor Day for the end of the summer."
Fekete said the town got more good news in regards to sidewalk paving projects. He noted that initially the town had gotten a $100,000 grant to pave the sidewalks as well as a grant to build a new concrete building for the water department to replace the rusted out metal structure. Then the Town of Man received another $200,000 for sidewalk repairs bringing the town’s total in grant funding to $500,000 thanks to getting "a lot of Governor's Partnership Grants" and thanks to Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin and the Logan County Commission for matching funds, Fekete said.
According to Fekete, more good news was on the way as a new playground for the pool is in the works and the Man Fire Department has applied for grant money, too. Fekete said much of the work on the older grant projects is finished or nearing completion.
Roger Bryant, executive director of the Logan Emergency Ambulance Authority, also brought good news for the town. Bryant said he will be assisting the town and other municipalities with required hazard mitigation plans. "Any town that participates in FEMA or flood mitigation has to have a hazard mitigation plan," Bryant said.
Bryant explained that the Logan County Commission believes it would be a burden on small municipalities to come up with such plans and had asked him to do a countywide plan including each municipality. "That saves you from having to hire somebody to do it, or to come up with it yourselves," Bryant said.
Bryant will be speaking with other town councils next month about the matter, he said.
City Attorney Bernard Spaulding said the application for the town's long proposed annexation plan is completed and will be presented to the Logan County Commission for possible approval.
