According to event organizers more than 50,000 tickets have been requested to attend the free event, making it the largest expected Labor Day rally in the country on September 7.
The rally’s entertainment features country music legend Hank Williams Jr. and John Rich. Sean Hannity, a nationally-syndicated radio host and Fox television host is a featured speaker as well as Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science adviser to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Conservative activist, gun rights advocate and outdoors enthusiast Ted Nugent will emcee the event.
The “Friends of America” rally will be held on 22 Mine Road near Holden, from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Participants must register online for a free guest pass.
To register for guest passes and for more information visit the Friends of America Rally online at: www.friendsofamericarally.com.
The event will coincide with the annual UMWA-sponsored Labor Day rally, held the last 70 years, at Racine in Boone County. Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry attended the labor rally in 2004.
Having the Friends of America rally on the same day -- or even at all -- has angered many leftists, liberals and environmentalists.
"Here in Appalachia this Labor Day weekend, Big Coal is distracting the public with a line-up of aged entertainers and climate change denialists," an on-line blogger from wvablue.com writes.
The website continues, "That'll certainly be some 'Labor Day Wango Tango' if God decides to send a three and a half story high wave of sludge roaring down the hollow just as Don Blankenship introduces the most upper of upper crust Lord Christopher Monckton, Third Viscount of Brenchley, to one of the poorest areas in the United States. But it wouldn't be the first time God drowned a bunch of folks in Southern West Virginia coal sludge. I know, I know. The dam at Buffalo Creek was owned by Pittston, and that was a long long time ago. Plus, Massey Energy would never, ever let a coal sludge dam break, would it? Because Massey is such an environmentally responsible corporation, right?"
The liberal website's counterpart, the conservative wvared.com, counters.
"I noticed that one of the writers on West Virginia Blue has started using fear tactics to discourage people from attending the Friends of America rally," a wvared blogger writes. "I seriously doubt the hardened people of the coal fields will be scared off by the driveling of some environmentalist, most likely writing from outside of West Virginia and definitely not a resident of the coal fields, when it comes to having fun and surviving a concert. Of course, what should we expect from a website with writers that have practically endorsed the elimination of coal mining in West Virginia and is supportive of legislation that will hurt coal mining families."
