After last week’s resounding 34-7 victory over Class AAA county rival Logan, the Man High School football team has went from sixth to fifth in this week’s Class A Daily Mail poll.
Defending state champion Williamstown (1-0) was first and received nine of the 20 first-place votes. Williamstown hosts Magnolia this Friday night.
Wheeling Central (1-0), which beat Trinity High School out of Ontario Canada last week in the opener, was second and garnered two first-place votes. The Maroon Knights host Akron Buchtel (Ohio) this week.
Madonna (0-0) was third with six first-place votes and open the season Friday at home against Paden City.
Fayetteville (1-0), after a blowout win over Oak Hill in last week’s opener, is fourth with three first-place votes. The Pirates play at Midland Trail this week.
Man (1-0) is fifth in the state and plays at Mount View on Friday.
Parkersburg Catholic (0-0) is tied for sixth with St. Marys (1-0) and opens Friday at Buffalo. St. Marys plays at Wirt County.
Tucker County (1-0) is ranked eighth and goes to Tygarts Valley.
Matewan (0-0) is ninth and opens the season Friday at Webster County.
Gilbert (1-0) moved into the top 10 with a blowout win over Buffalo last week. The Lions play at Westside Friday night.
Calhoun County, Iaeger, Moorefield, Mount Hope, Clay-Battelle, Bishop Donahue, Pendleton County, Richwood and Clarksburg Notre Dame also received votes in the Class A poll.
In the Class AAA poll, defending state champ South Charleston (1-0) is No. 1 as the Black Eagles got 15 of the 20 first-place votes. SC plays at No. 2 George Washington on Friday night.
GW (1-0) is second as the Patriots received three first-place votes.
Martinsburg (1-0) is third as the Bulldogs got two votes for No. 1. Martinsburg plays Potomac Falls (Va.) on Friday night.
Bridgeport (1-0) is fourth and plays No. 5 Wheeling Park (1-0).
University (1-0) is ranked sixth and hosts East Fairmont on Friday night.
Riverside (1-0) is seventh and hosts St. Albans.
Spring Valley (1-0) is eighth and hosts Huntington on Friday.
Morgantown (0-1) is ninth and plays at Elkins.
Fairmont (1-0) is rated 10th and hosts North Marion.
Cabell Midland, Brooke, Capital, Parkersburg, Lewis County, Ripley and Hedgesville also received votes in the Triple-A poll.
In the Class AA poll, Magnolia (1-0) stays at No. 1 after a Week 1 win. The Blue Eagles play at Williamstown on Friday night. Magnolia received 16 of the 20 first-place votes.
No. 2 is Wayne (1-0). The Pioneers play at Chesapeake (Ohio) on Friday.
Defending Class AA state champ Grafton is third. Grafton (1-0) got the other four first-place votes and play at Lewis County.
Bluefield (1-0) is fourth after a season-opening win over rival Graham, Va. The Beavers are at Princeton on Friday night.
Ravenswood (1-0) is fifth and plays at Poca.
James Monroe (1-0) is sixth and play Oak Hill on Sept. 11 after a bye week on Friday.
Point Pleasant (1-0) is seventh and play at Sissonville on Friday in a Cardinal Conference matchup. The Black Knights were one of three teams to beat Chapmanville last season.
Frankfort (0-0) is eighth and open the season Friday at home against Liberty Harrison.
Poca (1-0) is ninth. The Dots, of the Cardinal Conference, host Ravenswood on Friday.
No. 10 is Keyser (0-1), who plays at Fort Hill, Md., on Sept. 11.
For the second straight week, Chapmanville, of the Cardinal Conference, is 11th. The Tigers beat Sissonville, 34-19, last week in the season opener at Tiger Stadium. Chapmanville is at Herbert Hoover on Friday night.
Weir, Scott, Sherman, Westside, Independence and Philip Barbour also received votes in the Class AA poll.
