CHIEF LOGAN STATE PARK — For weeks, the airwaves and print media have been filled with stories about the major Labor Day coal/jobs rally to be held in Mingo County featuring rock-n-roll icon Ted Nugent and Country music star Hank Williams Jr.
But, the Monday rally will actually be the main event to a weekend filled with music.
Two local musical events are scheduled for Chief Logan State Park this weekend.
In addition to the annual Aunt Jennie Wilson Music Festival, the park will feature a free concert courtesy of friends and supporters of Pickin' in the Park.
"Pickin' in the Park will have a music show and hog roast Saturday from 2 p.m. to midnight," Cliff Criswell told members of the Lions Club of Logan on Tuesday.
Criswell will be on hand for the event along with Logan Lions Club President Ken Nunley to man the civic club's pop corn machine and possibly make some last-minute sales of tickets for the club's annual duck race fundraiser.
Criswell said people who like country, folk, gospel and traditional Appalachian music will have a lot to look forward to this weekend at the park.
"The Pickin' in the Park Pig Roast will be at the newly-revamped location, which if you have been to where the stables are, you can find it," Criswell said. "There is no admissions charge and the music is free. The musicians and supporters of Pickin' in the Park are doing this as a thanks to the community for their support and to raise awareness of the work done by the county to help them out by fixing up a really nice place for them to play."
But, that's not the only music being played in Chief Logan State Park this weekend. The Aunt Jenny Wilson Music Festival is also this weekend. It will be taking place Saturday and Sunday starting from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and running from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater.
