HOLDEN — With nearly 100,000 people expected to attend the Labor Day Friends of America rally at 22 Mine Road, many are wondering where attendees can park.

Several people have called The Logan Banner office to ask where they can park and ride shuttle buses to the rally, which features Hank Williams Jr., John Rich, Ted Nugent and Fox News commentator Sean Hannity in a free concert/rally on a reclaimed surface mine site near the James H. "Buck" Harless Wood Products Industrial Park on 22 Mine Road.

Massey Energy, which is spearheading the event, issued a press release this morning with the parking information.

Additional offsite parking and shuttle service will be available at:

√ Gaston Caperton Drive — U.S. Route 119 (approx. mile marker 21.8)

√ Twin Branch Road — Route 119 (approx. mile marker 18.5)

√ Fountain Place Mall

√ Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College — Logan Campus

√ and shoulder areas along U.S. Route 119

Shuttle buses, provided by the Logan County Board of Education, will be used to haul rally attendees to and from the event.

"Traffic will be heavy on Labor Day," the press release said. "You are encouraged to carpool and arrive early. Parking at the site is limited. Parking areas at the site will open at 6 a.m., and we encourage you to arrive between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. to access the best parking."

Other performers include Halfway to Hazard, the Blackwater Outlaws and Taylor Made.

Nugent is scheduled to emcee the event.

The event has grown so large in scope that organizers have stopped accepting free tickets on its website: www.friendsofamericarally.com.

The website says more than 75,000 people have registered.

"Due to overwhelming demand, this event has sold out," the website reads.

Don Blankenship, chief executive of Virginia-based Massey, said he's pleased by the interest, but the site can accommodate only so many people.

Massey is a co-sponsor along with more than 100 associations and businesses, including energy, paving, machinery and trucking companies.
