The Logan High School basketball team has an interesting and challenging 2009-10 hoop schedule.

It has been released on the official WVSSAC website.

The highlight of the schedule is a Jan. 23 game against City College, Md., at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

The Wildcats, which went 15-8 last season and lost 71-54 to Cabell Midland in the first round of the Class AAA sectional tourney, are also slated to play in three tournaments this coming basketball season.

Logan will take on Henrico, Va., on Jan. 9 at the Madison Civic Center in Scott High School’s new tourney.

Coach Mark Hatcher’s Wildcats are also scheduled to host the King Coal Classic basketball tourney, Jan. 21-22, for the second straight year at Willie Akers Arena.

For the second season in a row, the Cats will take on Princeton Day Academy of Maryland in the tourney opener. Last year, Logan lost to Princeton in a 74-68, triple-overtime thriller.

Logan is also set to play fellow Triple-A school George Washington in its own tourney, before heading to play City College at WVU.

The third tourney Logan is slated to play in this season is the Big Atlantic Classic, Feb. 5-6, at Beckley.

Logan opens the season Dec. 15 at home against Class A county rival Man. The Wildcats have home-and-home series with the Billies and their other county rival, Chapmanville, which is now coached by Harry Kirk. Man is coached again by Harvey Arms.

LHS also has home-and-homes with 3A Winfield, Riverside and Wheeling Park and single games against Lincoln County, Wyoming East, Parkersburg, South Charleston and Charleston Catholic. The Cats play George Washington a second time on Feb. 23 on the road.

The Logan basketball program made headlines across the state last month as WVU recruit Noah Cottrill, regarded as the best point guard in the state by some pundits, transferred to LHS. It is Cottrill’s third school in as many years. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Poca before going to Mountain State Academy last season. Logan also has all-state guard Paul Williamson back, along with Jordan Canada, Bryce Dalton, Jamall Hairston, Deyonta Coleman and 6-7 Man transfer Gary Miller.
