We live in an area that should be celebrating its history.
Other areas are celebrating our history, like Beckley with its Hatfield-McCoy Feud play and Pike County, Ky., which has monuments posted at its borders to proclaim it as the “Home of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud”.
But, for some reason, we only have a Civil War reenactment in Chief Logan State Park and The Aracoma Story.
We don’t have a play about living the life of a coal miner or the Hatfield-McCoy Feud or the Battle of Blair Mountain, like Matewan does the Matewan Massacre.
Someone in Logan County needs to organize a reenactment of parts of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud or the Battle of Blair Mountain so that our residents can see our history brought to life.
There is too much history here that is being mined by other areas. We need to bring that history back home where it belongs.
