VERDUNVILLE, W.Va. — Albert “Shot” Burgess of Verdunville passed away Tuesday September 29, 2009, at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born November 19, 1934, in Boone County, he was a son of the late Readith and Albert Burges. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Paul Burgess; his sisters, Janet Staikoff, Joyce Anderson and Mary Burgess, and his mother- and father-in-law, Bessie and Albert Williams.

Shot was a retired coal miner who loved hunting, four wheeling, riding his motorcycle and being in church with his family and friends. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church. We rejoice in knowing that Shot is in the loving arms of the Savior he faithfully served.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Williams Burgess; four children, Sherrie (David) Hager of Verdunville, Terri (Bo) Ranson of Ripley, Greg (Lorri) Burgess of Justice Addition and Lesley (Jimmi) Chrislip of Whitman; grandchildren, Ceason Ranson, Joshua Burgess, Crystal Burgess, Taylor Kraus, Colton Ranson and Troy Burgess; one great-grandson, Hunter; brother, Mike (Linda) Burgess of Lake; sister, Tammy Adkins of Peach Creek; a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends and church family, and his little dog, Toby.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, at the Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church at City View with Rev. Bobby Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Joshua, Taylor, Colton and Troy, son-in-law David and brother Mike.
