CHARLESTON (AP) — The West Virginia Conservative Foundation says it’s planning a rally to support the coal industry.

The group says it’s also going to protest the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to delay 79 applications for surface coal mining permits in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. The agency says it wants changes before the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues the permits.

The foundation says it’s planning to hold the rally at noon Wednesday at the state Capitol.

Logan County Administrator Roscoe “Rocky” Adkins said he believes the rally is important for coal mining jobs and the economy in southern West Virginia.

“We think this is important,” Adkins said. “I think anytime someone speaks out for people who want to do their jobs, we think it’s a good thing.”

Adkins said he hopes to send a representative from Logan County to attend the meeting.

Logan County recently hosted the Friends of America rally, which was a pro-jobs, conservative rally for coal. The rally featured Hank Williams Jr., Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Ted Nugent and John Rich. Reports said more than 45,000 people attended the rally.
