LOGAN (AP) — A judge has allowed environmental groups and the state Division of Natural Resources to step into an ongoing court case over proposed natural gas drilling at Chief Logan State Park.

Logan County Circuit Judge Roger Perry on Friday granted requests from the Highlands Conservancy, the Friends of Blackwater, the Sierra Club, former state parks chief Cordie Hudkins and the DNR. Perry extended a deadline by 60 days for filing documents during the appeals process.

In June, Perry overturned a state denial of drilling permits for nearly three dozen new gas wells sought by Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp.
