The Hillbillies, though, have some company.
Man (5-1) is tied with Madonna (6-0) and Richwood (6-0) as the top-ranked Class A team in the state with a 9.17 rating.
Wahama (6-0) is fourth with a 9.00 rating.
Clay-Battelle (6-0) and defending state champion Williamstown (5-1) are tied for fifth, while Iaeger (6-1) is seventh, Wheeling Central (4-2) eighth, Pendleton County (6-1) ninth and Parkersburg Catholic (5-1) 10th. Fayetteville (5-2) is 11th and Calhoun County (4-2) and Valley Fayette (4-2) are tied for 12th. Tucker County (4-2) is 14th, South Harrison (5-2) is 15th and Mount Hope (4-2) and Wirt County (4-2) are tied for the 16th and final would-be playoff spot.
The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs which begin Nov. 13 across the state.
If the season ended today, Man would host Wirt County, Mount Hope or South Harrison in the opening round. Man travelled to Mount Hope last season in the first round and beat the Mustangs.
In the Class AA ratings, Chapmanville (4-2) rose from 14th to 10th in this week’s numbers.
Sherman is still No. 1 in 2A with a 6-0 mark and 11.67 rating. Ravenswood (6-0) is tied with Wayne (6-0) for second with 11.50 points.
Frankfort (6-0) is fourth, Magnolia (6-0) fifth, Westside (6-1) sixth, James Monroe (5-1) seventh, Keyser (4-2) eighth, Bluefield (4-2) ninth and the Tigers 10th. Tolsia is 11th with a 4-2 mark. Scott (4-3) is 12th, Pikeview (4-3) 13th, Liberty-Raleigh (4-3) 14th and Herbert Hoover (4-3) and Shady Spring (4-3) is tied for 15th.
If the season ended today, Chapmanville would travel to play at James Monroe in the first round fo the playoffs. Ironically, the Tigers hosted the Mavericks in last year’s opening round of the playoffs and lost 33-0 at Tiger Stadium.
In the Class AAA ratings, Brooke (6-0) is first, Fairmont (6-0) second, Spring Valley (7-0) third, Bridgeport (6-0) fourth, South Charleston (5-1) fifth, Martinsburg (6-1) sixth and Nicholas County (6-1) seventh. Capital (4-2), George Washington (5-2) and Ripley (5-2) are tied for eighth, University (5-2) is 11th, Morgantown (5-2) 12th, Robert C. Byrde (4-2) 13th, Lewis County (5-2) 14th, Riverside (4-3) 15th and Hurricane (4-3) 16th.
