WILLIAMSON — The Tug Valley Lady Panthers got their sixth win of the year as they defeated the Matewan Lady Tigers and the homestanding William-son Lady Wolves in a tri-match at Williamson High School.

Tug Valley beat Williamson 25-16 on Karah Sheppard’s spike, then won the second set against the Lady Wolves by the same score.

Tug then beat Matewan 25-11 in the first set and then Sheppard spiked the ball again to beat the Lady Tigers

“We’re doing a whole lot better,” Tug Valley Coach Vonda Preston said. “We’ve got it down now. We played extremely well. All of them did.”

Karah Sheppard recorded her 100th kill in the tri-match. She got 10 kills, seven digs, four aces, three blocks and three assists.

Amy Hall served seven aces, got 10 digs and two kills, gave 13 assists and had one block. Brooke Stevens gave 13 assists, got 11 digs, served four ace and had two kills and two blocks.

Amber Hopkins recorded nine digs, give assists, six aces and a kill.

Cheyenne Baisden had 11 digs, a kill and five assists and she served three aces and got a block.

Zana Watkins had three kills, three digs, one assist and a block.

Williamson then beat Matewan, 25-14, in both sets.

Tug Valley plays Sissonville and Logan for senior night on Tuesday.

The tri-match was Williamson’s Senior Night. Seniors Jessica Fields, Devan Maynard and Erica Fitzpatrick were honored between games.

“I think my girls played more consistent and our serves were much better,” Williamson Coach Tondra Elkins said. “We’ve really been working on that. We had some really good stops. Still, we get a little sloppy sometimes and want to play ping pong with it. I have to make sure they keep focused and truly that’s a hard thing for them.”

Matewan Coach Clay Moore said he was disappointed in his team’s performance.

“Uninspired,” Moore said, referring to the way his team played. We just don’t have that winning attitude and it’s all about attitude sometimes. You can play, but if you don’t play with a lot of heart, you’re not going win. But, still yet, we’re trying to get ready for sectionals.”

Matewan returns to action Monday at home for Senior Night and the Lady Tigers will host Williamson the same night.

All matches are set to start at 6 p.m., respectively.
