A week after sharing the No. 1 spot in the WVSSAC Class A Computer Ratings, the Man High School football team is alone again.
Alone at the top.
Man is ranked No. 1 in the state in this week’s ratings, which were released Tuesday afternoon. The Hillbillies are 6-1 with a 9.57 rating and host 2A Wyoming East on Friday night.
Madonna (7-0) is second with a 9.29 rating, while Richwood (7-0) is third with a 9.14 rating.
Man was tied with Madonna and Richwood last week.
The Billies have been ranked No. 1 in the state since the ratings first came out after the third week of the season.
Class A defending state champ Williamstown (6-1) tied for third with Richwood. Clay-Battelle (7-0) is fifth, Wheeling Central (5-2) sixth, Wahama (6-1) seventh, Iaeger (6-1) eighth, Valley Fayette (5-2) ninth and Fayetteville (6-2) 10th. Tucker County (5-2) and Wirt County (5-2) are tied for 11th, Pendleton County (6-2) is 13th, Parkersburg Catholic (5-2) is 14th and Matewan (4-2) and South Harrison (5-2) are tied for 15th.
The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Nov. 13 across the state.
If the season ended today, Man would host either Matewan or South Harrison in the first round of the playoffs. Ironically, Man hosts Matewan in the regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Man’s George A. Queen Memorial Field.
In this week’s Class AA ratings, the Chapmanville Regional High School football team remained 10th. The Tigers are 5-2 and riding a four-game winning streak after shutting out Tug Valley, 47-0, last week. Chapmanville plays at No. 14 Tolsia in a key Double-A battle this Friday night at Glenhayes.
Wayne has overtaken previous No. 1 Sherman for the top spot in this week’s 2A ratings. The Pioneers, which beat Tolsia 47-14 last Saturday night, are 7-0 and have a 12.14 rating. Sherman (7-0) and Magnolia (7-0) are tied for second with a 11.14 rating. Frankfort (7-0) is fourth, Ravenswood (6-1) fifth, Westside (7-1) sixth, James Monroe (6-1) seventh, Keyser (5-2) eighth, Bluefield (5-2) ninth and CRHS 10th. Herbert Hoover (5-3) is 11th, Liberty-Raleigh (5-3) 12th, Pikeview (4-3) 13th, Tolsia (4-3) 14th and Greenbrier West (5-3) 15th. Point Pleasant (4-3) and Roane County (4-3) are tied for the 16th and final playoff spot.
If the season ended today, Chapmanville would travel to play at James Monroe in the first round of the playoffs. The Mavericks beat the Tigers in the opening round of the playoffs last season at Chapmanville, 33-0.
Chapmanville has two key games remaining following the contest with Tolsia. The Tigers are at Wayne on Oct. 30 and close out at home against Point Pleasant on Nov. 6.
In this week’s Class AAA ratings, Logan is ranked 35th in the state out of 38 teams with a 1-6 mark. The Wildcats play at No. 4 Bridgeport on Friday night.
