MAN – The Man High School football team had no problem with Wyoming East on Friday night as the No. 1-ranked Hillbillies rolled to a 61-0 victory over the Class AA Warriors at Man’s George A. Queen Memorial Field on Senior Night.

Man’s defense – led by Manual Gibson, Jimmy Duba and Derek Lomax – pitched the shutout.

Lomax had an interception for a touchdown, while Ryan Crawford and Wade Maynard each had sacks as the Billies which improved to 7-1 on the season.

“We played well on defense with the shutout and our offense did well also. We ran the ball well and threw it well,” Man coach Harvey Arms said.

Man got on the scoreboard first on its first possession after a 5-yard punt by Wyoming East gave the Billies good field position at the Wyoming East 46-yard line.

Five plays later Man Andrew Hale found pay dirt on 26-yard TD run. Earnest booted the PAT to give the Billies the lead for good at 7-0 at the 7:46 mark of the opening period.

The Billies pushed their lead to 13-0 on senior quarterback Ryan Crum’s 37-yard score on an option play with 1:21 to play in first stanza. The PAT was blocked.

Man pulled away at 21-0 to open the second quarter as Crum hooked up with senior wide out Jeremy Hatfield on a 47-yard TD pass. The Warriors’ defense fell asleep on the play as Hatfield was left all alone. Crum ran in the two-point conversion.

Man’s “Blue Funk” defense was able to hold Wyoming East senior all-state quarterback Thadd Grogg in check as the Warriors had to punt again.

The Billies then pushed the lead to 24-0 on a 39-yard field goal by Earnest with 7:34 remaining until the half.

Man wasn’t done in the first half as the Billies put lit up the scoreboard for two more touchdowns.

The first came on an 8-yard run by Hale with 5:18 showing on the clock. Crum later fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to Earnest with 2:56 left. Earnest’s extra point kick was good and the Billies held a commanding 37-0 lead at the halftime.

The Billies kept pouring it on in the second half.

Lomax picked off a Grogg pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown with 8:07 left in the third quarter for another Man score. Earnest’s PAT was good and Man led 44-0.

Lomax later scored on a 7-yard TD run to make it 51-0 as Earnest’s PAT was again good.

Arms then called off the dogs and put his reserves into the ballgame.

Backup junior kicker Josh Booth made it 54-0 with 5:29 to play with an 18-yard field goal.

Man then got the final points of the night as Jeremy Tipton scored on a 15-yard touchdown run. Booth’s extra point kick finished off the scoring at 61-0.
