Sam Murray has made into to the top of the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" Tournament of Ten.

Murray, a Chapmanville native and a No. 8 seed in the tournament, correctly answered the $1 million question to take the lead in the tournament, according to a press release from the gameshow.

Murray, who now lives and bartends in Philadelphia, faced the following question on Wednesday’s episode of Millionaire yesterday: "For $1,000,000 – Category, 'We the People' – “According to the Population Reference Bureau, what is the approximate number of people who have ever lived on earth? A: 50 billion, B: 100 billion, C: 1 trillion, D: 5 trillion.”

Murray had the traditional :45 seconds for the $1 million question, plus any banked time that he had from his previous appearance on Millionaire. Murray decided to go for it — and despite the risk that if he were wrong, he would have fallen back to $25,000 — he guessed the answer to be “B” and was correct, according to the press release.

Murray has now officially taken the lead in the “Million Dollar Tournament of Ten.”

Anyone seeded higher than him on the Leader Board however, will bump Murray out of the tournament if they correctly answer their own $1 million question, the press release said. If no other finalists answer their $1 million questions correctly, Murray will be crowned the champion of the Million Dollar Tournament of Ten and will win $1 million. The winner of the Tournament’s $1 million prize will be determined by Friday, November 20, after the top-seeded contestant looks at her question worth $1 million.

Murray's appearance on today's show was made especially memorable because he was surprised on the set by his 22 year-old son Tim, who had driven nearly 20 hours the night before from Wisconsin, so that he could be in the studio audience when his dad faced the $1-million question. Tim made it to NYC just in the nick of time. Sam was informed that his son had made the trip and would be supporting him from the audience, just five minutes before he faced the $1-million question.

Today, the No. 7 seed will take to the hot seat to face her $1 million question. Robin Schwartz, unemployed from NYC, will go for $1 million at the end of tomorrow’s episode, as part of the “Million Dollar Tournament of Ten.”

"Tune-in to see if Robin will take a chance of her own and knock Sam out of the Tournament — or if Sam will continue as the leader of the Tournament," the press release said.
