A Logan woman died in a Huntington hospital after she stepped in front of an oncoming car Friday evening.

Logan Police Chief E.K. Harper said Marjorie Canterbury, 60, of Logan, stepped off the sidewalk near the Water Street Bridge Friday around 5:50 p.m. into the path of Martha Cody, 86, of Chestnut Street in Logan, and suffered massive head and internal injuries when she was hit by the Cadillac.

Canterbury was flown by helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where she died Saturday afternoon just before 1 p.m., Harper said.

“Her daughter said she was hard of hearing and couldn’t hear a car coming,” Harper said.

No charges are pending against Cody, Harper said, adding that speed was not a factor in the incident.
