The price for a gallon of gasoline has fallen in most areas outside of Logan County, but still remains high here.

In nearby Pikeville, Ky., gas was priced at $2.49 for a gallon of regular unleaded yesterday afternoon.

In Huntington on Saturday, gas was $2.59 a gallon at the Speedway on Hal Gree Boulevard. It was also priced at $2.59 a gallon in Lincoln County on Route 10.

In Williamson, last night, gas was priced at $2.69 a gallon. In Danville and Turtle Creek along U.S. Route 119 in Boone County, gas stations were selling regular unleaded gasoline for $2.69 a gallon — 6 cents cheaper than it is just a few miles south in Logan County.

But, in Chapmanville and Logan, gas was priced at $2.75 a gallon this morning.

AAA reported yesterday that gas prices had fallen across West Virginia to an average of $2.681 at the pumps, which is a 3.6 cents drop over a week.

The press release from AAA said gas prices are falling due to a “potent mix of dollar weakness, growing international economic activity and better than expected retail sales data that was helping oil prices move higher on Monday.

The average price of gasoline at this time last year was $2.179 a gallon, the AAA report said.

Gas prices in Mingo County were still hovering around $2.79 a gallon outside of Williamson, where competition with bordering South Williamson, Ky., stations causes gasoline prices to be cheaper. At a station at Borderland near Chattaroy and Williamson, gas was priced at $2.79 a gallon, which was the price for a gallon of regular unleaded at the Chevron station at Myrtle.

Gas was highest this morning at the Hatfield-McCoy station at the Fountain Place Mall at $2.85 a gallon.
