Born June 22, 1955, in Huntington, he was a son of Earnest and Mamie Ellis Blevins of Henlawson.
Red began working inside the coal mines of Pittston Coal and Island Creek. He was last employed at Chief Logan State Park. He was a member of the Yuma Church of Christ. Red was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also served as a softball, baseball and basketball coach to generations of boy and girls of Logan County.
Additionally, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Jane Conley Blevins; one daughter Natalie (Shawn) Browning of Salisbury, N.C.; one son, Ronald Keith “J.R.” Blevins of Sumter, S.C.; one grandson, Xavier Chance Browning; one sister, Andrea (Jessie) Alfrey; one brother, Ernest Kent (Pam) Blevins; brother-in-law, Cecil Ray (Kathy) Conley; four nieces, Sarah Fields, Peyton Alfrey, Jennifer Blevins and Kristi Hurst; three nephews, Steven Blevins, Daniel Blevins and David Conley, and a host of other family and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 23, at the Freeman Funeral Home at Chapmanville with Richard Belcher, Bill Lambert and James Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Conley Family Cemetery at Conley Branch Road at Chapmanville.
Pallbearers will be his co-workers from Chief Logan State Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Johnson, Robbie Shell, Wally Thornhill, Shawn Adkins, Mark Griggs, Brent Couch, Roger Gertz and Kevin Gertz.
Red wanted to acknowledge his special friends, Lynn Couch, Pat Simon, Coach Greg Keaton, John Ryan Steele, and Coach Fleanor of the Sumter Fire Ants.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dignity Hospice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Dignity Hospice, the 5th floor nurses at Logan Regional Medical Center and Dr. Kathy Harvey.
