The Logan County Community Fund has a brand new location and is moving into it's new campaign season rather well, according to board members, who met recently at the location on the third floor of the Chase bank building.

"We have really moved up in the world," quipped Executive Director Teresa Maynard.

"A lot of things have happened since the last meeting," LCCF Board Director Bea Orr said of the new facility is first class in every way. "I think a lot of good things have happened since our campaign kick off dinner."

Tommy Elliot said the board had three open positions left and that several people had been contacted about coming on to the board. Kim Probst had accepted and Sally Stollings also accepted a board nomination.

"That brings us up to 21," Justin McAllister said, adding that the move to the new suite went well and fast. McAllister said the bank was eager to have the LCCF move in as well and explained that the new location is cheaper on the rent and offers plenty of free parking as well as other amenities.

Tommy Elliot and McAllister worked three straight nights to paint the new offices and get the move under way. Elliot said the Logan County Commission also provided help and assistance with the move, which only took one week.

In addition to being cheaper by the month the Red Cross has agreed to pay half the monthly rent, McAllister said, noting that with security systems and sprinklers the new location is both secure and cheaper on insurance. Phone numbers won't change either.

McAllister discussed the recent budget meeting and applications for assistance from the Red Cross, local scouts and the Tug Valley Recovery Shelter.

"We made a motion to tentatively approve those organizations for funding," McAllister said. "Budget packets were sent out last week with a Dec. 4 deadline."

Several board members had questions about the Salvation Army of Logan, a long time beneficiary of the LCCF. Currently the SA has new officers who have not met with the LCCF.

"If we don't work something out with the Salvation Army we may just divide the funds we raise among the other charities," Bea Orr said.

Orr praised local attorney Robert Ilderton, the 2010 campaign chairperson for the work he had done on this year's fundraiser and work he continues to do. Orr asked for a list of previous donors to provide to Ilderton.

"We need to help Robert with these things," she said, noting the campaign has been going well. "Teresa got a check the other day for $1,000 from the Logan BOE," she added. "That was from payroll deductions."

Orr was optimistic about this year's campaign making its' $100,000 goal. Around $10,000 came in since the kick off dinner.

"In January, we need to bear down with the solicitations," she added.

"Teresa Maynard said the checks had been coming in from donors in $500 and $1,000 amounts since Ilderton's speech at the dinner. One large check came from an anonymous donor.

"I say hat's off to them with all our respect," Orr said, noting that donations to the LCCF helped provide tremendous relief to people when disaster struck in the past and would continue into the future. Orr also thanked Art Kirkendoll and the Logan County Commission for their assistance in moving to the new location.

Justin McAllister noted the fundraiser dinner would not have been the success it was without James and Angie Rice and thanked the West Logan Church of God for the facility it was held in.

Board members also discussed potential division chairs:

• Bea Orr and David Godby for education

• Kristy Adkins and Darren Akers for residential

• Ed Eiland for the legal community

• James Charles and Odis Ratcliff for the service clubs

• Justin McAllister for the accountants

• Wally Thornhill for automotive

"Our division chair list is looking better," Orr said.

The LCCF board will meet on the third Tuesday in January at 3:30 p.m.
