VERDUNVILLE — On Friday, November 6, 2009, Verdunville Elementary Exemplary School held its annual Veteran's Day Program to honor all veterans at home and abroad. A wonderful crowd of parents, staff, students and faculty gathered to pay tribute to our veterans with many local veterans in attendance.

Logan High School Band, directed by Mr. Marty Ojeda, wowed the crowd with a tribute melody. Posting of the colors and retiring was provided by American Legion Post 19 of Logan. The Beni Kedem Highlanders treated the students to a performance before the program started by marching down the hall for them. They opened the program and also played outside for the Retiring of Colors. Several members of the business community attended the ceremony and offered readings and praise for the veterans and all they have done for our country.

Poems were read and songs were sung by Mr. James Olbert, Mr. Hilary Brooks, and the Verdunville Elementary student body, under the direction of Mr. Robert Leete, music teacher. The veterans were treated to a dinner prepared by the Verdunville Elementary Parent Volunteers and school cooks Judy Conley and Ilean Meade.

"Verdunville Elementary Exemplary School wishes to thank Mr. Dwight Neal, Logan Walmart, Rev. Glen White, American Legion Post 19, Sons of the American Legion Post 19 Color Guard, Beni Kedem Highlanders, Nick Rahall, Verdunville Elementary Parent Volunteers, and all of the faculty, staff, and student body for making this such a fantastic and memorable day for our veterans," said Barbara A. Porter, principal of the school.
