About 90 percent of our local crime problem comes from the local drug abuse crisis.

For example, many shoplifters are zonked out of their skulls on pain pills when they get caught. Ditto with “drunk” drivers. Many are under the influence of narcotics and just not beer or whiskey.

The Futures program located down on Main Street is an excellent program indeed and I know of some success cases that have come through that wonderful program.

The problem is, they only have a limited number of beds available there. And we have hundreds if not thousands of people walking around Logan County today who are hooked on drugs like OxyContin, Loratab, Xanax, hydrocodone, Vicodin and methadone.

In many cases, methadone is not a solution because a lot of people who get it just swap it on the street for other drugs.

The rehab space problem is even worse for female addicts. They have to be sent to a program in Huntington.

I am just like the rest of you. I have friends and I have family with drug abuse problems.

I know the horrors they have gone through and what they have put their families and friends through.

So, this year, all I want for Christmas is more long term drug rehab.
