Born June 25, 1925, in Ranger, she was a daughter of the late Hurston Nelson and Viola Lovejoy Nelson Maynard. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Parker Jim Maynard; two sons, Wandell Gay Maynard and Robert Lee Maynard; four brothers, Lester Nelson, Hurston Nelson Jr., Otis Nelson and Wilson Bee Maynard; two sisters, Elsie Bills and Violet Lee Maynard, and one great-grandson, Austin Ray Carter.
Elva enjoyed quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Thelma Jean (Kelvin) McCoy and Ona (Ance) McCoy, both of Big Creek; six sons, Milton (Helena) Maynard of Harts, David Maynard, Donnie Maynard, and Scottie (Cathy) Maynard, all of Ranger, Paul (Linda) Maynard of Raleigh, N.C., and Frankie (Sandra Johnson) Maynard of West Hamlin; six sisters, Hester Wiley of Harts, Bernice Vance of Ranger, Essie Adkins of Barboursville, Garnet Huff of New Jersey, Mag Tuller and Eva Tomlinson; one brother, Olin Nelson; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Elva’s life will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 28, at Little Harts Freewill Baptist Church at Atenville with Ministers Ronald Manns and Earl Burgess officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Maynard Cemetery at Sand Creek Road at Ranger.
Pallbearers will be Paul Maynard, Scottie Maynard, Randy Maynard, Paul Ance McCoy Jr., and Jerry Maynard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul McCoy, Virginia McCoy, Nathan McCoy, Ance McCoy Jr., Jamie Maynard and Jerry Maynard.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the church.
