According to the web site www.appalachianpower.com/outages/, Boone, Lincoln and Wyoming counties currently have power restored to 100 percent of its customers and 1,400 in Mingo and 600 in Logan County are still without electricity.
The web site said work is expected to continue through today.
At least 220,000 customers in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee were left without power after a Dec. 18 snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow on the coalfields.
By last night, Appalachian Power was reporting it had restored power to 200,000 customers in all three states. The outages peaked at 220,000 on Dec. 19. On Dec. 19, 5,145 customers in Mingo County; 2,862 in Logan County; 1,235 in Boone County, 708 in Wyoming County and 315 in Lincoln County were without power after the heavy snowfall. Appalachian Power President Dana Waldo said terrain was a major obstacle to getting power restored in southern West Virginia.
