Gov. Joe Manchin, Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin and Logan County Commission President Art Kirkendoll all want southern West Virginians to be healthier.

Logan and Mingo counties rank near the top of every unhealthy list that has been made.

But, now, with the Chief Logan Rec Center nearing its grand opening, there is no excuse for people to be unhealthy.

The governor, senate president and commission president met with about 60 business leaders from around southern West Virginia on Monday at the Rec Center to promote the facility and all that it has to offer.

Hopefully, everyone in Logan County and the surrounding counties will take part in the new rec center. For a family of four, it costs only $360 a year. That’s less than a dollar a day for all four members of a family to make good use of the rec center, which offers tennis courts, basketball courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, weight training, aerobics, a walking track and anything else our residents will need to get healthy.

We urge everyone in the coalfield counties to join the Chief Logan Rec Center. The facility is there and easily accessible from every county so there’s no reason now for our friends, neighbors and family NOT to be healthy.
