• Gabriel M. Webb, 35, of Vesuvias, Va., was arrested in Logan by Logan City Patrolman Mark Dickerson for smuggling drugs into a regional jail, possession of a controlled substance and shoplifting on Jan. 9.
According to police reports, the officer responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart where store security told him that Webb allegedly took a ring from a jewelry display case and placed the ring on his finger, then put it into his pants pocket. Dickerson was told Webb allegedly cut his finger when removing a watch from its package.
"Webb then attempted to exit the store without making a purchase," the report states, adding that when Dickerson asked for ID, Webb gave him a West Virginia ID card and the photo on the card was not Webb.
When transported to the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden, Webb was searched and a cut straw was located on his person with a white powdery substance inside. The total of the stolen merchandise was $43. Webb will face more than $600 in court costs.
Webb was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 8:55 a.m.
• Melinda Sue Damron, 20, of Switzer, was arrested in Logan by patrolmen Aaron Newsome and Kevin Conley of the Logan Police Department for shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication and battery on an officer on Jan. 1.
She was booked at the regional jail at 10:30 p.m.
• Bobby Lee Vance, 24, of Logan, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Troopers J.D. Hensley and T.D. Boggs for burglary and petit larceny on Jan. 3.
Vance was taken into custody and booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 7:45 p.m.
