One woman was dead and another in jail after a fiery crash last night on State Route 73.
Sarah Whitney Pack, 23, residence not listed on the police report, was arrested by West Virginia State Police Troopers E.B. McClung and T.D. Kuhn for DUI causing death in the fatal crash that occurred around 10:05 last night on the bridge just before the Verdunville exit on State Route 73 in Logan.
Pack was arrested and booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 3:10 a.m.
The West Virginia State Police and the Logan City Police Department were both working on the crash investigation. Reports said an accident recreation investigation is scheduled for later today.
Sgt. B.M. Brown of the West Virginia State Police confirmed that one of the victims was killed in the crash and that a positive identification of the body had not been made by the medical examiner as of press time.
Sgt. Brown said Pack was driving a 2006 Ford Fusion which collided with a 1997 Dodge Neon driven by the deceased. The accident occurred near the Verdunville exit of State Route 73.
Sgt. Brown said Senior Trooper E. B. Mcclung is the lead investigating officer. Trooper T.D. Kuhn is assisting McClung with the investigation.
"Those officers are working on the investigation recreation right now," Brown said. "The unidentified female driving the second vehicle was the fatality. Sarah Pack was charged with DUI causing death. It's still under investigation by the state medical examiner's office. They have yet to make positive identification on the deceased female."
Logan Fireman Nick Ferrell said the car in which the deceased female was traveling was "fully involved when we got there."
"There was major debris in the road," Ferrell said. "We got the call at 10:05 p.m. and were on the scene at 10:07 p.m. and the scene was cleared at 1:30 a.m."
Ferrell said the Dodge Neon suffered severe collision damage possibly "from the impact of the car and the concrete barrier on the bridge there just before you get to the Verdunville exit."
Ferrell said the driver of the other vehicle was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
It seems to me last year Paul Jenkins was driving a car (with no license) messed up on drugs and crashed and killed a boy. Why wasn't he arrested on the spot? I guess when you're a criminal informant in logan county you can get away with anything, even murder.
