CHARLESTON — A Mingo County man has been sentenced for possession of a stolen firearm.

James Matthew Ball, 45, of Wharncliffe was sentenced Tuesday by Chief United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin to 28 months in prison on the charge. Ball pled guilty to the federal gun charge in September 2009. The conviction stems from an investigation conducted by the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to court documents, Ball possessed a stolen 16-gauge shotgun near Gilbert in July 2008. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston handled the prosecution.
