“Hamrick brings to Marshall University a vision for athletics that everyone can embrace and support,” a press release said. “His proven experience and accomplishments unequivocally demonstrate his ability to translate vision into action that leads to success.”
Hamrick played football at Marshall University from 1976 to 1980, starting at linebacker and defensive end his last two years. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in education from Marshall, he earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1981.
Prior to his position at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), Hamrick was director of athletics at East Carolina University from 1995 to 2003. He also has been athletic director at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, assistant athletic director at Illinois State in Normal, Ill., and assistant athletic director at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.
“It’s great to be back home,” Hamrick said. “I am thrilled to be rejoining the Marshall University family and plan to work hard to help advance the success of Thundering Herd athletics in all facets.”
Hamrick is a native of Clendenin and a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School. He and wife Soletta are the parents of three children — twin sons, Brett and Justin, 21, and daughter Mollie Ann, 18.
The main emphasis of the dinner is to honor Boy Scouts throughout the Chief Cornstalk District who has been awarded the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in the year 2009. The district will also be honoring some outstanding adult leaders in the district.
All Scouts and Scouters, anyone with the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Order of the Arrow, Exploring and Venturing Programs, as well as the public, are invited and encouraged to attend.
Cost for the dinner is $20 per person if paid by January 20. The cost after January 20 will be $25.
