Born May 27, 1964, at Logan, he was a son of Patricia Reed Brown of Mallory and the late Jimmy Dale Elkins.
Also preceding him in death were two children, Patricia Joann Elkins and Christopher Aaron Elkins, and his grandparents, Ivan Dale Elkins, Velva Gay Marcum, and Burt and Gevina Reed.
Roger was a disabled heavy equipment operator, formerly employed with the city of Fort Payne, Ala. He was a member of the Greenvalley Worship Center at Greenvalley. Roger loved to play his guitar in church and enjoyed fishing.
Additionally, those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 25 years, Clara “Susie” Grimmett Elkins; one son, Jack Grimmett of Greenvalley; step-father, Terry Brown of Mallory; one brother, Steven Elkins (fiancé Charlotte Walker) of Dutton, Ala.; four nephews, Jimmy Elkins, Joshua Bingham, Ryan Bingham, and Shaun Bingham, all of Dutton; three nieces, Marissa Williams of Dutton and Amy Elkins and Samantha Elkins, both of Kinston, N.C., and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 29, at the Davin Freewill Baptist Church with his special cousin, Rev. David Reed, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pallbearers will be Steve Elkins, Jimmy Elkins, Ryan Bingham, Joshua Bingham, Shaun Bingham and Clifford Stevens.
Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.
