BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — James “Pete” Neil, 66, of Barboursville, formerly of Chapmanville, departed this life Saturday, January 30, 2010, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Born September 11, 1943, in Chapmanville, he was a son of the late Jesse O. and Ruth Craddock Neil of Chapmanville.

Pete was a retired postal employee and a loyal member of the Steele Memorial United Methodist Church of Barboursville and choir. He served on several committees and was a trustee over the years. He was a graduate of Chapmanville High School, where he splayed sports and was inducted in the Chapmanville Hall of Fame. He was a devoted Christian, and sportsman. He loved to fish and play golf with his buddies. He was well liked in the community and will be greatly missed. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Myrtle A. Workman Neil of Barboursville; two sons, Gregory T. (Connie) Neil and Steven Ray (Cindy) Neil, both of Barboursville; one daughter, Heather S. Neil (Steve) Carter of Greenup, Ky.; two brothers, Wade (Judy) Neil of Skaitook, Okla., and Gary David (Cathy) Neil of Chapmanville; six grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Steven “Ray” Neil Jr., Gregory Chase Neil, his little princess, Nicolette Shae Neil, Hunter Blake Neil, Zane Michael Carter, and Zander Neil Carter; “adopted sisters” Glenna Jones and Gail Bledsoe; special cousin, Doug Neil, and a host of other family and friends.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel at Barboursville with Dr. Rev. John Sauvage and Rev. Ralph Sager officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ott Workman, Larry Glenn Workman, Gary Neil, Wade Neil, Donald Workman, Steve Carter, Rick Fown, Jack Perkins, Wendall Childers and John Call.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, Box 346, Barboursville, WV, 25504.
