CHAPMANVILLE – Poca blew into town on Thursday night and surprised the Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team.

The Dots walked away with a 52-49 upset of the Lady Tigers at the CRHS gym.

Adrian Cunningham scored a game-high 25 points for Poca, which improved to 7-9 on the season.

Chapmanville, 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the Cardinal Conference, had a shot at tying the game with three seconds left but Allison Evans’ 3-point attempt was off the mark.

Kelli Garrett led Chapmanville with 17 points. Evans had 12 for the Lady Tigers. Lydia Vance had nine and Brittani Lowe five, while Jenna Evans, Jenna Vance and Bre Thomas all had two points.

Poca trailed 13-10 after one quarter but went into the half on top of Chapmanville 22-21. The Dots then outscored the Lady Tigers 12-11 in the third to take a 34-32 lead. An 18-17 fourth quarter then iced the game.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to return to action on Saturday at home against Point Pleasant. Game time is 3 p.m. Next week, Chapmanville goes to Scott on Monday and plays at Sherman on Thursday in the regular season finale.

Chapmanville has lost three out of its last five games.
