LOUISBURG, N.C. — Jewel Stevens Clark, 68, of Louisburg, N.C., passed away at her residence Friday, February 12, 2010, surrounded by her loving family and her dog Izzy.

Preceding her in death was her husband Jimmie Nile Clark; her father, Eddie Lee Stevens, and her mother Vesta Lee Stevens.

Jewel was born in Pecks Mill, and graduated from Logan High School in 1959 and Lenoir Community College in 1992 with an A.A.S. Degree. She was a homemaker until the children were older and worked at the Employment Security Commission in the legal department in Raleigh, N.C. Jewel also was the Retirement Benefits Administrator for Walter Kidde Inc., and she owned and operated Clark’s Court Reporting. Upon retirement, Jewel went to work at the Wal-Mart in Wake Forest, N.C., with her good friend Craig Blackburn in the Paint and Hardware Department. Jewel liked spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with her daughter, Betty Leigh, best friend, Pat Jones and her loving nieces, Jody Elliott and Tammy Clark.

Survivors include her children, Jimmie Wayne (Bonnie) Clark of Wake Forest, Dennis Clyde Barker of Pecks Mill, and Judy Michelle (KJ) Will and Betty Leigh (Scott) Pearce, both of Youngsville, N.C.; her loving dog, Isabella “Izzy”, at home; grandchildren, Cody Dalton Hilton, at home, Carson James Hilton, Amanda Leigh Pearce, and John Dillon Will, all of Youngsville, Levi Barker of Pecks Mill, and Nick and Steven Barker, both of Palm Bay, Fla.; sister, Betty (Robert) Curry of Fairborn, Ohio; brothers, Arthur (Patricia) Stevens of Dallas, Ga., Scotty (Brenda) Stevens of St. Albans, Sammy (Barbara) Stevens of Charleston, and Tony (Valerie) Stevens of Albany, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews, and her best friend Patricia Jones of Louisburg, North Carolina.

Jewel had a contagious smile, humorous personality and lived life to the fullest. This is a time to celebrate and remember Jewel as a loving mother, mommaw, sister, aunt, and friend. May the twinkle in her eyes remain a memory in your heart.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home at Wake Forest. A private burial will be held Saturday, May 29, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at Pecks Mill.

The family will receive friends and family 30 minutes prior to the Memorial Service.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. George Moore Jr. and nurse, Donna Garner, of Wake Forest Family Medicine. The dedication, care, and understanding that Jewel received was exceptional and beyond expectations. We greatly appreciate it.
