Tigers whip Wayne; Billies win over Big Creek Owls

CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team remained in first place in the Cardinal Conference with Saturday night’s 75-44 blowout win over Wayne at the CRHS gym.

Chapmanville, ranked No. 10 in the state in Class AA, improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

The Tigers made it a season sweep over the Pioneers as Chapmanville also beat Wayne 64-37 on Jan. 26 on the road.

Wayne, also a sectional foe of Chapmanville’s, dropped to 4-12 on the season.

Todd Terry had a double-double in Saturday night’s win with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with his four blocked shots.

Matt Cook led the way for the Tigers with 17 points.

Brooks Cooper added 13 points and Cliff Hall 12. Point guard Zack Maynard dished out 10 assists.

Chase Perry and Seth Merritt led Wayne with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Tigers were scheduled to return to action on Monday against Poca. On Tuesday night, Chapmanville is slated to host Herbert Hoover. Then on Thursday, sectional rival Scott comes to town before the Tigers travel to Naugatuck on Friday to take on the Tug Valley Panthers.

Man 57, Big Creek 52

The Man High School boys’ basketball team improved to 9-7 with a Saturday afternoon road victory over Big Creek.

Man was scheduled to host Van Monday, however, the Bulldogs were unable to get a bus and the game has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 26, at Man. It will be the last regular season contest for the Hillbillies before sectional tournament play.

The Hillbillies are scheduled to host Logan Tuesday night, weather permitting, and then Iaeger Wednesday night for Senior Night before traveling to Burch Friday night.

Tyler Browning led Man with 19 points against the Owls. Travis Hurley and T.J. Hoosier had 11 apiece, Jordan Simpson had eight. Ryan Crum and Andrew Lusk had four each. Adam Copley had one point.

Browning led Man on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Man was just 21-of-57 shooting for 36.8 percent. The Billies made 12-of-21 of their free throws.

Big Creek (4-9) was 18-of-50 from the floor for 36 percent. The Owls were 3-of-4 from the line.

Aaron Wilson had 20 points to lead Big Creek.

Man led the Owls 16-13 after one quarter, 29-21 at the half and 43-37 after three.
