A Williamson man and a Holden resident were arrested in Logan recently on theft-related charges by the same policeman.

• Ronald Glen Pope, 39, of Williamson, was arrested in Logan County, by patrolmen Aaron Newsome and Kevin Conley of the Logan Police Department, for shoplifting and trespassing on Feb. 12.

According to police reports, on Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., the officers responded to a call from Walmart about an alleged theft.

"Upon arrival, this officer spoke with a Walmart Asset Protection employee who advised she observed the accused, Ronald Pope, conceal items and attempt to leave the store without paying," the report states.

"This officer then spoke with the accused who did state he attempted to take the items.

The officers then obtained a written consent to search Pope’s vehicle and found other items in the back seat of that vehicle.

The report said the officers were also notified that the accused had previously been placed on a trespass notice from Walmart.

The officers then obtained a trespass agreement from Walmart previously signed by Pope on Aug. 9, 2008.

The allegedly stolen items were valued at $272.66. Pope will face over $300 in court costs and over $500 in fines.

He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 11 p.m.

• Randall Seay, 52, of Holden, was arrested in Logan County by Patrolman Aaron Newsome of the Logan Police Department for shoplifting, public intoxication and obstructing an officer on Feb. 11. According to reports, on Feb. 11, at 3:30 a.m., Newsome responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart, but, before he could get there, he found a man matching the description of the suspect walking along the road. Newsome took Seay to the store where he was reportedly identified by management as the man who fled.

"The items reported to have been taken without being paid for were later found near the Thornhill parking lot at the Fountain Place Mall, where the suspect had walked down (the) hill," the report states, adding that "while investigating and reviewing (surveillance) video, the accused became verbally combative and refused to obey any verbal commands the officer gave."

Seay was booked at the regional jail at 6:21 a.m.
