The annual Kiwanis Club of Logan Pancake Day will be returning to Logan very soon.

The Kiwanis Club Pancake Day will take place on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Logan Middle School cafeteria. Pancakes, sausages and more will be available at the fundraiser for $5 per adult and $3 per child and tickets are available now from local Kiwanians or at the door.

The Pancake Day event will also feature a silent auction, where the public can find some amazing bargains thanks to local businesses who have donated a wide variety of items which are auctioned off. To make a bid, just write your bid down on the clip sheet next to the item and at the deadline the highest bid will win.

"In the past, we have had everything from very nice musical instruments to oil changes for your car," noted longtime Kiwanian Don Elkins explaining that the silent auction was made possible thanks to goods and services that many local businesses have donated to the club specifically for Pancake Day and it's a big part of the event's success.

"We use the funds from this event for Kiwanis' charitable efforts, so you can come in, get a good meal and get a great bargain and support your community all at the same time."

Members of the club began making final preparations for the much-loved local event on Feb. 11.

"Pancake Day is coming up fast," said Darren Akers at the Thursday meeting at Gatti's Restaurant.

Members discussed purchasing of items that might be needed for the event.

Master Chef Roger Ramey had a list of returned items from past Pancake Days and noted that the club might want to order more of some items (like sugar free syrup for diabetics) and less of others (such as take out containers).

"I don't think we need 800 take out trays," Ramey quipped.

Joel McNeely noted that if the club began running low on other items it would be possible to run to Logan Wholesale and get them, as he had done in the past.

"I think we had to buy extra coffee last year," Don Elkins said. "But Nancy Baisden said she would take care of providing the coffee and coffee cups."

Members also discussed their next major event which will also be coming up soon in March — The Harlem Ambassadors Vs. Kiwanis Kings charity basketball exhibition which will feature past local sports stars from Logan, Man and Chapmanville taking on a professional basketball exhibition team on March 15.
