Man only lost the game 28-26.
The two met up again last Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Black Diamond Conference tournament at the Chapmanville Middle School gym.
Man fans were hoping for another close one and maybe even an upset victory.
But the RedHawks would have none of that as undefeated Madison Middle downed Man 45-23 to claim the title.
Madison, coached by Stacy Kinder, closed out the season with a 16-0 mark. Man, led by head coach Orlando Washington, finished 13-4. The Lady Pioneers had advanced to the finals with last Thursday night’s 37-31 win over George Washington.
The RedHawks led the game from the opening tip and jumped on top of the Lady Pioneers 10-6 after one quarter and 22-9 at the half. Madison outscored Man 15-12 in the third to go on top 37-21.
Morgan Conn led Man with 17 points. Mika McCoy and Kendra Mitchell had two each and Kyra Cline and Tessa Mullins scored one each.
Taylor Adkins led Madison with 16 points. Jaimee Dotson had 14, Julie Conway five and Breanna Linville four. Alex Slone, Landyn McKinny and Cassidy Allen had two each.
Coach Washington said his team came out flat but was pleased with his squad’s 13-4 overall seasonal mark.
“They played extremely hard and we came out flat,” Washington said. “It was a really good year. To be 13-4 you’ve had a good year. I’m very proud of my girls. You win some and you lose some. We just came up a bit short today. I’m especially pleased with the play of Morgan Conn. She’s a great player and a good leader. The high school is getting a very special player.”
